A lactation consultation is a one-on-one session with an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or similarly qualified professional. At Symphony Lactation, our consultants offer evidence-based guidance on breastfeeding technique, positioning, milk supply, and more.
You can schedule a prenatal consultation any time during your pregnancy to prepare for breastfeeding. Many families find a session in the third trimester helpful, but it’s never too late—newborn visits can be scheduled immediately after birth or whenever challenges arise.
Our consultants assist with:
Achieving a comfortable, effective latch
Managing sore or cracked nipples
Increasing or regulating milk supply
Resolving engorgement, mastitis, or plugged ducts
Navigating tongue-tie, lip-tie, or other oral restrictions
Implementing pumping and bottle‑feeding strategies
Planning for weaning and return-to-work transitions
Yes—Symphony Lactation provides both in‑person and secure telehealth appointments. Virtual visits are ideal if you prefer support from home, live outside our service area, or need quick access during off-hours.
Initial consultations are 60–90 minutes and include a detailed history, observation of feeding or pumping, personalized education, and a written care plan. Follow‑up visits (in‑person or virtual) are usually 45–60 minutes.
Many insurance plans—especially under the Affordable Care Act—cover IBCLC services. We recommend checking with your provider beforehand. Our office can provide superbills and documentation to help you seek reimbursement.
